Case Study

Initial Situation

Simon Dworaczek laid a solid foundation for his career even before his directing studies at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. During his high school years at the Gymnasium der Stadt Lennestadt, he founded and led a theater group, gaining his first experiences as a director and playwright. He directed plays like Suddenly Alone and Spring Awakening, performed not only within the school community but also at PZ Lennestadt-Meggen. These productions showcased his early talent for dramatic staging and his ability to lead an ensemble, working ambitiously with amateurs on theater projects.

In April 2013, Simon undertook the demanding task of securing a place at the renowned Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna—one of Europe’s most prestigious theater programs. At just 17, he succeeded on his first attempt, impressing the jury and earning a coveted full scholarship. Thus began a five-year program that elevated his artistic and intellectual capabilities to an extraordinary level.

The application process was intensive, requiring written concepts, practical examinations, and a personal interview. Simon excelled with his presentation of an original directing concept, a critical analysis of a dramatic text, and his ability to articulate complex ideas succinctly. His approach of connecting socially relevant themes with emotional depth impressed the jury, as did his clear aesthetic sensibilities.

Simon stood out among many applicants due to his rare combination of artistic sensitivity, intellectual depth, and practical execution skills. His determination to use theater as a platform for societal discourse and his ability to bring innovative perspectives to the table made him an exceptional candidate poised to leave a lasting impact on the theater world.
